The first commencement meeting of the reorganized committee was held on October 15 and Mrs. Julia Chou, President of the Conservation Mothers Foundation, was chosen as the first Committee Chair.
The EPA noted that the original committee roster of 13 to 15 persons will be expanded to 15 to 17. Terms for committee members will also be extended from one year to two years. Members will still be appointed by the EPA Administrator, selected from fair-minded individuals, scholars, local government officials and EPA representatives, involved in environmental and consumer protection.
The mission of the restructured committee will consist of the following:
1. Appraisal of EPA commissioned and certified IACOs
2. Audit the auditing and certification work done by IACOs
3. Hear all cases brought forward involving auditing or certification
In addition, the committee, which in the past met only annually, will now meet bi-annually. Also, the passage of resolutions formerly required attendance of two-thirds of members but has now been relaxed to require only over half attendance, and approval of half of those in attendance to pass the resolution.
