In the early morning of 1 February, with the help of real-time water quality monitoring equipment, the EPA and the Environmental Protection Bureau of the Kaohsiung City Government jointly launched a raid on an electroplating factory in Gangshan District, Kaohsiung City. The factory was caught on the spot discharging untreated strong acidic wastewater from electroplating work through a bypass pipe. Samples were taken at the scene, and the factory was ordered to remove the pump and the bypass pipe. The illegal gains will be pursued in follow-up actions, and fines will be imposed in accordance with Article 36 of the Water Pollution Control Act. When necessary, the factory’s operations will also be suspended according to law.
(2) As of the end of February, the EPA had organized eight sessions of “Counseling Meetings on Occupational Safety and Health Laws for Law Implementing Agencies” in Yilan County, Hsinchu City, Hualien County, Nantou County, Pingtung County, Yunlin County, Chiayi City and Kinmen County. (1) With the cooperation of the Irrigation Agency, the EPA conducted analysis via the Internet of Things for Water Resources and ascertained the frequency and timing of illegal wastewater discharges by unscrupulous businesses after more than a month of monitoring. In the early morning of 1 February, with the help of real-time water quality monitoring equipment, the EPA and the Environmental Protection Bureau of the Kaohsiung City Government jointly launched a raid on an electroplating factory in Gangshan District, Kaohsiung City.
