This year, the First International Simulation Video Conference was successfully held on June 7. The conference was organized by Taichung Customs and Taipei Customs, while colleagues from the Customs Administration, Keelung Customs, and Kaohsiung Customs also enthusiastically participated. Four colleagues shared informative briefings on the issues of “Export Case Study on Strategic High-Tech Commodities (SHTC),” “Taiwan Authorized Economic Operator (AEO),” “A Brief Introduction to the Taxpayer Protection Ombudsman from a Comparative Law Perspective,” and “Major New Measures on Air Express Cargo Clearance,” of which the contents covered significant aspects such as the inheritance of practical experience, trends in international customs affairs, protection of people’s rights and interests, and the latest customs clearance policy. In this simulated environment as an international conference, the participants strengthened their understanding of the issues and their English question-and-answer skills through active questioning and impromptu response.
The Customs Administration further stated that physical activities for international exchanges were subject to many restrictions during the COVID-19 outbreak, and the popularity of video conferencing has thus accelerated. As the epidemic slows down, mutual visits between countries are gradually resuming. It is imperative for customs to promote cooperation and exchanges in various customs fields without delay. The Customs Administration, in response to the needs of international customs development, will keep regularly organizing simulation exercises for international conferences and be committed to cultivating customs talents equipped with application abilities of foreign language, professional knowledge of customs affairs and meeting procedures, as well as visions and enthusiasm of international customs affairs.
