Better communication, more involvement from the public and private sectors, and, consequently greater transparency in the process of environmental policy-making will improve the formation of consensus. Together these improvements will strengthen Taiwan's competitiveness and enhance Taiwan's prospects of becoming an Asia-Pacific Regional Operations Center (APROC).Through the publication of this newsletter in printed form and on the Internet (www.epa.gov.tw), the ROCEPA aims to provide just such a communication channel with the international community. We would like to reach foreign firms in Taiwan, international environmental groups, and relevant individuals in the public and private sectors around the world. We at the EPA believe it is important to engage in an active dialogue with the international community. In the past, we have actively communicated with domestic industry. Now, we would like to include English-language relations with foreign businesses in Taiwan and environmental organizations around the world.To demonstrate the sincerity of our efforts to improve communication with the private sector and the international community at large, we will publish in this monthly newsletter the most important policies of the EPA, notifications of changes to environmental laws, schedules of public hearings on environmental issues, and dates and details of environmental activities to be held at different levels of administration throughout Taiwan. We are dedicated to continuous improvement in this regard. General Policy Welcome to the first of the ENVIRON-MENTAL POLICY MONTHLY. As environmental protection affairs become ever more international in scope and complex in terms of regulations it is necessary that the ROC Environmental Protection Administration (ROCEPA) introduce this communication channel to facilitate its exchange of ideas with the international community. Better communication, more involvement from the public and private sectors, and, consequently greater transparency in the process of environmental policy-making will improve the formation of consensus.
